Wellness Company Donates Healthy Meals to Children in Need

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24, 2012  – ViSalus™, known for its mission of helping people transform their health and fitness through the Body By Vi™ 90-Day Challenge, has donated $1.2 million worth of its all natural “mini-meal” Nutra-Cookies™ to over 100 Food Banks across North America.

Visalus is shipping to the Saints’ Pantry, 10 cases of individually wrapped Nutra-Cookies which provide a healthy, convenient on-the-go snack. Each Nutra-Cookie contains nine grams of protein, a full serving of fiber, calcium and fruit and vegetable nutrients and come in three flavors: Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter and Oatmeal Raisin.

Each of the 100 Food Bank’s that received the “Mini Meal Cookies” is a participant of the ViSalus Sciences® Community Challenge. The Community Challenge has donated over 2 million meals to area food banks since its inception, November 2009. For as little as 50 cents per meal, ViSalus Promoters, Customers & Community can make a donation to be matched meal for meal by ViSalus with the company’s Vi-Shape® Nutritional Shake Mix that will provide healthy, high quality, non-perishable protein nutrition to children.

Calling On All Mason County Business Community…..A Way to Give Back!

What a blessing to have a local business contribute $500 recently for the Saints’ Pantry Backpack Program. Shelton School District has identified 387 students who are either homeless or extremely low income.  With this contribution, 21 students will receive 60 child sized meals of nutritious non-perishable protein that tastes great and feeds the body with quality nutrients,vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber so critical for healthy body growth and brain development.

The need has never been greater with a reduction in food stamp allotments, nationwide drought & a significant decrease in food pantry donations by faithful food contributors.

Here’s how you can help.  Simply donate $24 per one non-perishable protein pouch (feeds 60 child sized meals).  Your $24 goes farther with the Community Challenge…as the regular price per pouch is $49.  Your $24 gets matched and is shipped out on your behalf directly to the Saints’ Pantry at no cost to the food pantry and with free shipping. These bags are given to the Shelton School District Liaison to these at-risk kids.

It’s Your Community!

Part of the joy, I’m learning, living in a small community, are the many opportunities of standing in the gap for helping others.

It all started by connecting with Steve Russell, the Executive Director of The Saints’ Pantry this past February.  I had a wonderful conversation with him regarding the ability to bring quality nonperishable protein to help feed the hungry and homeless they serve through the ViSalus Community Challenge.  Steve was extremely grateful, as that’s one area they are limited in providing for complete nutrition for those they serve.

Steve shared the 30 year history of this organization and their mission.  What they are able to accomplish and reach even outside their walls is remarkable.

About The Saints’ Pantry
What we doSince 1981, The Saints’ Pantry Food Bank has been working to make sure that no one in the Shelton area goes hungry. Through a network of community partners, we collect, sort and store canned goods, fresh produce, and other household essentials so we can provide food to those who need it most.Food Distribution

Last year, The Saints’ Pantry provided 557,371 pounds of food to 13,471 families (and the 55,075 individuals in their households).

The Food Bank is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 am to 12 noon. Because of the high unemploy-ment rate, demand is growing. Lines now reach around the corner and we sign up an average of 20 new families each week.

Nutrition Counseling

Food Sense Nutrition Program:   Dieticians from the WSU Extension Program prepare nutritious recipes with food available at The Saints’ Pantry. Samples and recipe cards in both English and Spanish are available to our clients.

Community Services Literature Rack

The Saints’ Pantry provides a literature rack at the Food Bank so our clients can learn about services available from local agencies including Mason County Literacy, Turning Pointe, and the Crime Victims Advocacy Network. WIC provides immunizations, health plans and dental care, and the Community Action Council provides housing, help with phone and electric bills, dental program, senior services, etc.

The Saints’ Pantry is an approved recipient of ViSalus’s Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake Mix.  It’s packed with high quality protein and nutrients many families don’t have access to.   Individual’s can donate $24 to feed one child 60 meals (4-12 years old) or 30 adult meals (over 12 years of age).  ViSalus then matches that $24 contribution and sends it to a local approved community food bank/pantry.  For the Shelton Community, that charity is The Saints’ Pantry.

The Saints’ Pantry has been approved to be a recipient of the ViSalus Community Challenge.  The one area of GREAT need is for quality non-perishable protein for children and families.  What the Community Challenge provides is the ability for churches, individual’s as well as local businesses can help donate $24 for 60 meals for children/30 for adults.  ViSalus will match that $24 with another $24 and send to the Saints’ Pantry one V–Shake pouch on their behalf.
